Georges River Council has endorsed its draft playspace strategy 2026 to 2046 for public exhibition, opening the plan to community feedback. The strategy sets a long-term approach for the council's 118 play spaces over the next 20 years.

The council manages 118 play spaces across the local government area, but a comprehensive review found many are aging, relatively small in scale and located within overlapping catchments. Community expectations are also shifting, with increasing demand for accessibility, inclusiveness and higher quality play experiences, according to a council manager.

The strategy was developed through site assessments, condition and catchment analysis, demographic forecasting, industry best practice and community consultation. More than 300 community members took part in the engagement process, both online and in person, and their feedback helped shape the strategy.

Moved by Councillor Damosky and seconded by Councillor Janssen, the motion was carried after a vote. A councillor said they only received the strategy when the business papers were published last week and no longer had briefings, leaving a short time to consume it.

They said the plan could bring 22-storey towers down King Georges Road, creating what they called an absolute wind tunnel next to single-storey homes on both sides of the road.

"do want then advocate for this proposal councillor wang because i don't think you would find the rest"

The councillor described the rezoning request as an ambit claim covering only 1.7 hectares while a master plan for the whole Beverly Hills area is still needed. They also praised the work in a submission that called out many problems with the proposal and said it was incomplete.

Councillors also endorsed the Todd Park Sport Facility Reconstruction concept design after community engagement on two options. One option was a new change room facility with public amenities, and the second was the same with a gym facility funded and utilised by District Rugby League. Councillor Lansbury said about 96 per cent of submissions were happy with the proposal and looked forward to a project agreement with the Dragons or St George District Rugby League Club.
