Councillor Borg will serve as Georges River mayor until the end of the current council term in September 2028, after councillors resolved to elect the mayor by a show of hands. Councillor De Moski was elected deputy mayor for a one year term until September 2027.

The mayoral election was the first item of business, conducted under the Local Government Regulation 2021. The resolution, CCL 073-26, set the voting method, the two year mayoral term, and required letters to the Office of Local Government and its chief executive advising of the election.

There was one nomination for mayor and one for deputy mayor, so no ballot was held. Councillor Borg was nominated by Councillor Jemison and seconded by Councillor Lou. Councillor De Moski was nominated by Councillor Lou and seconded by Councillor Borg.

During discussion on the deputy mayor item, a councillor questioned the process, saying a vote had been taken about two minutes earlier on who would be mayor and deputy mayor. The chair replied that there was no vote because there was one nominee, adding that it was clear the numbers were not there. A councillor also congratulated the new mayor and deputy mayor and called for politics to be put aside to work for the community.

Councillors then appointed chairpersons to the council's standing committees until September 2027. Infrastructure committee chairperson is Councillor More, community and culture chairperson is Councillor Liu, environmental and planning chairperson is Councillor Lansbury, and finance and governance chairperson is Councillor Jamison. All councillors were appointed as members of the standing committees, consistent with resolution CCL 125-25 of 8 December 2025.

Mayor Councillor Borg and deputy mayor Councillor De Moski will represent the council on the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils, with Councillor Marnie and Councillor Lu as alternates. Councillor Allison will represent the council on the Georges River Combined Councils Committee, with Councillor Marnie as alternate.
