Georges River Council carried the original recommendation for a proposed footpath in East Street Blakehurst on Tuesday night, after a close vote on a resident-backed amendment and an earlier attempt to remove part of the recommendation failed. The decision keeps the full path design component in the proposal.

The item was brought forward by Councillor Lansbury, seconded by Councillor Liu, and called for community consultation before construction.

"Residents have proposed common sense solutions to these issues and our"

A councillor spoke to the amendment, noting that this time last year residents of Blakehurst and Connells Point had raised the lack of footpaths. The same councillor said they were not comfortable voting on any recommendation that said Council would not do anything at this time.

In other business, Council received an update on capital projects for June 2026. The manager said the new monthly report covers projects with a cost over a million dollars or with community engagement significance, and that the 26/27 financial year starts in July, with many projects continuing over multiple years. The motion was carried.

Council also heard an update on the Gifford Park sporting and public amenity project. The manager said the concept design had been completed and taken out for community engagement, and the report sought endorsement to progress to detailed design. A councillor asked to defer the matter to the next council meeting to talk to people who made submissions and to check whether football clubs wanted the changes.

The manager said the policy had been endorsed for exhibition at the February 2026 Council meeting and ran through March and April 2026. The motion was carried.
