Georges River Council will carry out a comprehensive safety audit of playgrounds across the local government area and can isolate or close equipment found to be unsafe until repairs are finished. Councillors also voted to keep residents informed about closures, why they happen, and how long repairs should take.

The motion came after a child suffered a serious injury at the Princess Park playground. Councillor Dimoski, who moved it, said the incident showed how important playground safety is for the community.

Dimoski said the motion asked for a comprehensive audit to identify and fix risks before further injuries occurred, that unsafe equipment be closed or isolated promptly, and that residents be told clearly about any closures, the reasons for them and expected repair times.

An amendment was put and lost nine votes to six, and the meeting reverted to the original motion.

The mover said the changes were not widely advertised and that four routes were removed.
